Earphones problem with iPhone 3GS?

When I try to use earphones or an Aux.cord with my iPhone it doesn't work (no sound). The iPhone speakers work fine and there's no problem with the new earphones I purchased. What should I do?

Added (1). Yes the earphones fit perfectly.
It's the jack I think.

Is it a 3.5 mm jack or make sure it fits

  • Why won't the sound on my iphone work without earphones? I have an iphone 4s which is fully up to date, all of my sound is fine when my earphones are plugged in however when i have no earphones in i can't play music or hear any sound when on apps and games etc, but my sound works for facetime and when i'm on the phone to someone even on loudspeaker, it sometimes goes quiet though, i have tried everything i can think of to fix it and nothing will work, please help

  • My iPhone makes one of my earphones to stop working? Whenever I plug my earphones into my iPhone 3GS it works for about a day, but then will suddenly kill the left ear, you can't hear it if you plug it into any other MP3 player. There's a small crack next to the jack which I think could be the reason why. Is there any way to fix this.
