Finding someone with IP address?

Please do not judge me for my dilemma… Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Last night I lost my phone in a taxi cab in New York City. I got out of the cab in Brooklyn around 4:30 am to stay with someone I met that night at a bar in Manhattan. As soon as I got out of the car, I realized I left my phone inside. As the cab sped off, I decided I would just wait until the morning to track my iPhone and all would be well. The next morning I used the guy I stayed with's phone to track my iPhone but the phone read "offline". I only know the guy's first name, I don't know his last name. I have no idea where I even was in Brooklyn. This morning I did however use the guy's phone to access my email account. My gmail account is showing me the guy's IP address. Is there a way to find out where he lives from his IP address? The cab company can't help me very well if I don't know where I was dropped off. Someone please help me. I don't live in New York, I had to leave today, I have No money. I'm stranded in the LaGuardia airport with no money or phone. I realize I'm an idiot but if someone could please help me figure out how to find him I would be eternally grateful.

You can't, but the police can obtain that information from the IP address. You should see them and take the information you have with you. If someone found your phone then they're not entitled to keep it, that's classed as theft.

Of course though that IP address could turn out to be someone's like an internet cafe or Macdonalds, it depends on where they were when they switched it on. Alternatively it could be the taxi company, have you tried calling them to see if they've found it? Have you tried calling the phone to see if someone answers it? If you're lucky someone's got it and they mean to return it to you.

Only your carrier could do it, you can't.

Contact Anonymous. No we're not cops. We're not Alphabet soup. Lulz. You can do anything online if you know how to do it. It just takes practice and connections. Of course d0xing is illegal. And technically finding someone's id with their IP address is illegal. Just be sure to not leave any digital footprints. Sail safe.

  • What will happen if someone gets my IMEI address? So, I got a iPhone 4s, Verizon. I have At and T, so I was looking through websites and noticed this.UnlockiPhone.me. So i go through the process and entered my information, including my IMEI address. They said they will email in less than 24 hours, but… I'm afraid of what will happen now.
  • Lost my iphone? Probability of finding it? Lost my iPhone on a mountain trail this weekend. I had the find my iPhone and was able to trace the phone at a Starbucks today but after that it has been ofline. What is the probability of finding my iPhone? If the person that has it decides to keep it to themselves but have it off or take the battery out of it? Will sprint be able to trace the phone if the person already took the battery out? I'm thinking of just activating my old phone for now.
  • Is finding a iphone 4 stealing? My friend had found this iphone 4 three years ago and he said he had found it in a bathroom, he gave it to me to restore it. Is this stealing? (Legally Aquiring)
