Found an iPhone 4S, and I'm looking for the owner. What are the steps?
The owner is with Fido. I don't want to go to Fido and ask for the address of the owner.
Since the guy who works there can lie to me and give me the address of his friend. And take the phone and sell it. Same with apple store. I can't access to the phone to reach the contact list since it's locked with a passcode. Don't want to turn it in to the cops either.
So what is the safest way to proceed here? I really want to find the right owner? And I'm not keeping it so don't tell me to keep it or sell it. I've had this experience before. I lost a phone and I know that it sucks big time and it must be even worse when the phone is worth 800 bux.
Something is weird though I kept the phone on, I didn't turn it off at all and no one bothered to call to look for the phone. It's been three days now… Wtf!
If it's not locked, go into Settings and make sure Data Roaming is on.
When Data Roaming is enabled, and the user has the Find My iPhone application, he can locate it. Can you open the address book? You could call a couple numbers.
I find phones all the time. The easiest is to give it to the police. If you want to do more legwork, drop it off at Apple (they may refer you to the police) or the correct carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint). They also may refer you to the police.
A couple times I've called recent/frequently called contacts in the phone. "Hey I found this phone. Who does it belong to." The person usually is like "Oh yeah, let me call his wife and he'll call his phone to arrange pickup" but that takes time and is a hassle. I just drop them at the police these days.
If its reported lost the service was likely suspended and nobody can call it anyway. It might have even been stolen before you found it. I would either turn it over to the cops to cover your own but or toss it.

We messaged her on facebook, called her, texted her and did a lot to get it back to her. We finally got a hold of her through email. We have been waiting to hear back from her.
