Frustrated with Net10. Is Straight Talk any good? (iPhone)?

Net10 will limit your data even if you just read articles/news online. And now they have a 1.5GB cap with AT&T SIM cards for their "Unlimited" plan. So is not really unlimited is it now…

3G? Yea right, not even. More like 56k dial-up. I switch from a $69.99 plan because the net10 50 bucks unlimited data/text/talk was tempting.

Considering switching to Straight Talk. Can anyone provide insight? Is good for browsing on iPhone 4? News article/emails/etc, mostly. Not talking about intense video streaming or anything.

I assume that straight Talk will also be caped since its part of TracFone Wireless, Inc. I believe it's a better deal at 45$ compared to 50$ for net10 and they offer or most likely soon offer the same services. The data is fast a first but will probably be throttled after high usage but since net10 said it would offer 1.5GB of (HIGH SPEED) data usage per 30 day period on the Unlimited plan I assume it will be the same for straight Talk.

Net10 and Straight Talk are both divisions of Tracfone wireless. You will receive the same service with Straight Talk as you do with Net10.

Net10 and Straight Talk can get away with keeping the unlimited data on their airtime cards. Because they buy airtime from Sprint and T-Mobile as well as Verizon and AT&T. Sprint and T-Mobile offer unlimited data.

I would suggest that you switch to a contract plan that has unlimited data or look into Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile. But you will not be allowed to keep your current phone if you go with Boost or Virgin Mobile.

Straight Talk and Net10 are owned by Tractone. You will experience the same services and limitations, regardless of which one of these to you take. With any MVNO Prepaid plan that you buy, you will always experience data limitations, such as throttling. There's no such thing as truly unlimited data anymore.

Considering that you said you use your iPhone for news articles, emails, basic web browsing, you actually have nothing to worry about since activities use very little data. Even streaming music won't chew up your allotment unless you do it for hours. Videos are the ones to watch out for. So for you, you would most likely never notice the limitations.

Straight talk might be cheaper if you're looking to save money. Their plans are $45, as oppose to Net 10 plans for $50. Both roughly the same service, with the same limitations.

Again, the way you use your iPhone you will not have to worry about exceeding 1.5gb unless you're using it non stop everyday. Even using it for maps won't eat up your data. Stick to watching videos only on Wi-Fi, unless absolutely necessary. Limit your music streaming, such as Pandora to a few hours (Pandora uses 30-70 mb per hour). You'll be fine.

This new policy will only really affect the people that abuse the network.

I have straight talk. I got it a year ago. From what I've seen they have the cheapest unlimited plans. $45 and I've noticed that most other pre paid unlimited plans start at $50. But you can only but the cards at Wal-Mart or online. I got the Galaxy Percendent and it worked perfectly for a few months. Then it started to have problems. Sometimes only the top half of my touch screen works.doesn't have much memory in the phone for more than 5 apps depending on size.ect. There isn't a big selection of phones. Sometimes I will randomly not have service, sometimes I get my messages like a day late. My phone will start going off like crazy and all my messages will be dated the day before. I live in Omaha and went on a trip to Kansas and my phone worked, had great coverage. But i don't know about being further away. The internet is pretty slow too. But everything is unlimited. Internet, data, texts, calls, 411, any where in the US completely free, i don't know about international calls I haven't tried. But it isn't that bad, my phone is a POS but Straight Talk isn't a bad service.

  • What's better net10 or straight talk better as in cheaper? I want a smart phone so that would be about 300 dollars there. I want a cheap plan like 45 or 50 dollars a month for unlimited internet. How much is the iPhone 4 and can I use the 50 dollars unlimited for it.
  • I'm getting so freaking frustrated? Okay so I just got my iPhone 6 from sprint and ecerytime I'm on the phone I can't access to my internet. Why? Like I'm on the phone and the (LTE, 3G, 4G) sign comes off and once I hang up it starts working again! Why? What do I have to do?
  • Is straight talk service good? With an iPhone? I've heard great stuff about straight talk but prepaid plans tend to be bad service wise. I really want to use an iPhone with them but I need to know what all I'm getting before making that investment. I live in Birmingham, AL if anyone has ST here. I heard they use AT&T towers but just need to know what all this is. Let me know what you know!
  • Is straight talk overall a good service for iphone 5? I've been wanting to buy an iphone 5 in straight talk, because everything is unlimited and its affordable. But before making a mistake i wanted to make sure if it has good coverage, reception, etc. Is it unlimited on memory. All that good stuff. I heard they kick you out if you go over 2MB. Something like that. I usually don't travel much and it says it only works in your zip code area. I'm always here so that's pretty good. Just wondering about everything basically.
