Game Designer or Software Engineer?

Hi, i have a quite a big problem here guys, i'm a bit confused on what to choose for my career when i'm stepping up to a dangerous level of humans' life… I have just finished SPM,

i love to play games, and i wish i could build games for us malaysians to play… Especially console games, there are some uni that offered game developing course. Such as MMU, KDU, Help and LIMKOKWING. The problem is, Malaysia's gaming industries is too underground! Like, level 9000… And I don't think if I work at Malaysia, I will get a decent salary or income.

I also have a passion on being a software engineer, I also want to create a smartphone with its own unique Operating System like iPhone… But I'm not too passionate about being one.

give me some advice guys? And, if it's not being a burden to you, can you tell me how to study at japan. Their website's guide is not so STEP-BY-STEP, so it is kinda confusing. Hmm.

Why do Malaysians care about salary and not about passion in their jobs? Well i think it depends whether which ones that you like to work hard on with a passion. It'll be awesome if you created a video game. Maybe you will be the first Malaysian to develop a video game, your face will be on the front newspaper. Ha Ha.
Well, if you care so much about the budget, you should sacrifice either one of them or think of a new career.But, if you are capable of being either software engineer or game designer, you should be very passionate for them and never ever care about salary or money. Its about the benefit. Yes I know money makes the world go around and its very important to life, but you have to remember, smiles are more worthy than money.

Software engineer is more marketable when you're out looking for employment. But its really up to you. Also, going to japan means you have to spend at least 2 years studying the language because they don't speak english (trust me, learning japanese is no walk in the park) before you can start your studies. Its best you finish your foundation and degree here then go abroad for your masters. But hey, i'm not your parent so have a talk with yours or some councilor. Best of luck

It's totally up to you to choose between your passion and what pays. There are more job opportunities for software engineers than game designers. Even the pay is higher. Software engineers earn between $50,353 - $110,837 while game designers are paid between $31,088 - $101,905.
