Getting ready to move into my first apartment but I need some advice?

How do I Budget on groceries and how do I Budget on Bills?

And

I work at Walmart overnight stock $875

My rent is $500

I don't have cable and I don't have a house phone

I have a fire stick I don't have internet service yet

I have IPhone $80

I don't have a car right now I take the bus or Uber to get to work

It will take a month or two to figure out your regular bills (electric, water etc depending on how your utilities are structured).

Best way to ensure you're set is to put aside the $500 right when you get paid, irrespective of when you get paid. If you mean $875 every two weeks, you're doing fine - that's a comfortable wage for your level of expenses.

You have to add up all your expenses, Your phone looks way too expensive. You shoud investigate cheaper plans, Walmart offers much better monthly plans. As you will need every dollar you earn to live.

You have to add up all the money you will earn after taxes. Then figure out electricity, gas, water, food, some fun. Talk to your parents about monthly food costs, and you can call your local electric, water and gas companies for estimates for the size of your apartment. You'll want internet so add at least $50 per month for that.

So add all expenses then add all income and see if they balance. If not adjust what you spend or get a pt job to add so you can afford to live alone.

It make no difference how much you would need to make to live in a certain rental that rent for a certain amount each month.

This is a simple matter to solve.

You would have to place yourself in a financial situation where you are able to move on your own.

You would be required to save a sufficient amount to pay a deposit and first month rent on a rental you would want to reside. You would also need to have a sufficient amount to have the utilities turned on in your name, as well as purchase a sufficient amount of food

In order to be successful in renting, you would need to make a budget to see if things financially balance itself.

Your budget should include transportation, savings, rent, utilities (gas, water and electric), clothing, food, insurance (rental, auto and health any current debts you are required to pay such as credit cards and car notes.

You would need to do some research in order to find an estimate as the cost of some of these items.

Once you have determined an approximate monthly amount you would be required to pay. You would need to subtract this amount from you current income. Not a future income, but your current income.

This would give you an idea as to if you would be financially successful or not.

You are not required to live a life style based on percentages. You may select to rent an apartment at a lower monthly rent as oppose to one that is higher. No one on this forum have an idea as to the lifestyle you chose to live.

If you budget, you are in charge of your financial situation at all times and not living pay check to pay check, no matter your annual income.

You would have to have an emergency fund in the event you are laid off or have an illness where you would not be able to work.

If you have more month left than you have money, your budget is not working. The idea of a budget is that you have more money left than you have month.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

"FIGHT ON"

Congrats on getting your own place.

Do you pay for utilities? You should be able to ask the utility company for avg bills for that address. Some offer to put you on a plan that basically evens out the payments (you pay less in peak season, but more in non-peak season, but get the same amt charged each month. It's usually no cost and can help. They will adjust each year)

If you work at Walmart take advantage of all discounts including phone. You can eat cheap if you make stuff yourself.

A big cost will be internet. The cable company will try to bundle you w/ TV and phone. That will be more than you need. See if there's free Wi-Fi available, or just get the cheapest service. Sometimes the cheapest is DSL from the landline phone co.

You need to earn x3 salary per month than your rent is, that tells you that you can afford to not only get a place to rent but have enough money left over to manage bills.
Then you prioritise you rent is priority as in if you don't pay you end up homeless, if you don't pay your phone, big deal you are just without a personal phone.so prioritise your bills, electric, water, food all come before phone, car etc

Not happening, i don't believe any ll wold sign a lease with you. Even with food stamps, you can't afford it.

you need to get roommates and share expenses. And not mooch off taxpayers.

food/other basic needs like toilet paper is at least $300/month.

what about electric/gas? Is that included? Is 875 take home?

you need to get another job. You will end up being sued for eviction when you can't pay

while 3x rent is a standard income requirement. You need to do your actual budget… For example, right now without any extra expenses like car repairs, new computer, I could easily get by on about 1.75 times my housing cost per month… Most landlords what you earning at least 3x rent.

Have you actually found a landlord willing to accept you? Most would ot accept someone who earns under $900 a month with a rent of $500. Usually you need to earn about 2.5 times what your rent is? Unless you get paid every 2 weeks - its not clear from your post.

Anyway if you have actually signed up to a place, then you are going to struggle financially… As well as your rent you need money for electric, water etc AND food and transport, clothes, night out, birthdays, xmas etc.

I suggest you draw up a STRICT budget and stick to it. Arrange for as many bills as possible to be paid on a monthly basis - so no large bills coming in.

Then work out what you can spend a week on food, transport and going out - take that money out in cash once a week - using cash makes you much more aware of what you are spending or not.

Do NOT get or use a credit card - that offers a temptation to spend money you don't have.

Is that $875 each week or every two weeks
it is very possible you can't afford the $500 rent, let alone food each week
