Giving an old iPhone to a family member?
Warning: I'm not the most tech savvy.
My brother got an Android and wants to give his old iPhone 4s to my dad.
The SIM card is taken out, and I want to give my dad a clean start, but I'm worried that because the card isn't there anymore, he won't be able to do certain things on the iPhone after the reset. I would like to give him a new iCloud account as well, but keeping my brother's old one is fine.
Should I just go ahead and reset everything, or simply clean up stuff but leave the iCloud account? I would like my dad to receive messages from his own contacts without my brother receiving the message, or is that not possible?
Without a SIM card, the phone will only receive messages sent over Wi-Fi, e.g. Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Google Hangouts, etc. These will not require any involvement from your brother (or anyone else). He will NOT be receiving regular SMS text messages; those are sent using the wireless network (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc)
There's still a lot you can do without wireless service, and the 4S is a a capable little phone, even if it's no longer at the leading edge of technology. With Wi-Fi access, your dad can enjoy streaming music, youtube videos (if his eyesight can accommodate the small screen), email, games, etc.
To make use of the phone functions (voice and text calls), he'll need a wireless account. If he only uses a small amount of wireless data, a pay-as-you-go account can be quite reasonable.
- My iTunes is giving me this error message when I try and sync my iPhone? "The iPhone "RJs iPhone" can't be synced because there's not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 4.11 GB required). Even though on the bar it says I have about.47 GB free. I have an iPhone 4, 8 GB. What do I do to fix this?
- My iphone keeps giving me an error when i jailbreak it? When i jailbreak my phone using the 5.1.1 (because for some reason my redsn0w doesn't support ios 6.0.1) and when it goes to the matrix looking mode on the phone it says; Transferring code to jailbreak… dyld: code signature for shared cache failed with erno=7
- My iPhone 4s is giving me trouble? Okay so i dropped my iPhone 4s and now the home button is pushed in. No cracks on the screen or anything. The home button still works but it feels uncomfortable. If you touch it gently it will work and siri is coming on by itself sometimes. I'm still in apples 1yr warranty for the phone. Can I take it to them and get the home button fixed for free? And how should I go about the random freezing?
- MENSA member, CS degree from Notre Dame - how practical to make a successful iPhone App? So I'm learning Swift hoping to make iPhone apps and I mention my creds to show that the intellectual barriers of programming is not a problem my question is, how successful can you be on the app store? For instance, say I had a moderately good idea for an app and created it - could I expect to make, say 1,000 or 2,000 dollars per month from it? How many people make at least 1000 per month with their app(s)?
