What are some good editing apps/software that are free?

I want to start filming homemade movies and I need something to edit with. I mainly want them to be free. I have an iPhone and Toshiba Windows 10 laptop if that helps.

Personally, since I only needed to cut some game videos to size, I used Avidemux.
On the other hand, there's a dozen free Linux video editors available:

(yes, it's a PR site for filmora, another video editor - but the list is ok). Don't be intimidated by the fact that those are Linux editors - a lot of them (like Avidemux) also come compiled for Windows, and worst case, you can set up a virtual machine on your PC, run Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) on that VM and run the video editors inside the VM.
I actually did set this up un my PC for still images - before I realized that the software I wanted was also available as a Windows build…

MS Movie Maker may be on your computer already. If not you can download it for free. That is what I use on my Win 10 laptop.
