Good free online strategy games?

Games where you can build barracks and train troops but don't have a long tutorial and don't look so cartoony or lame? If so please recommend some for the iPhone 5. I prefer games with a modern or near future setting. Games centered around Rome or Greece are cool too.

I don't know about for the iphone, but evony is a pretty cool pc game

A few of my friends and I all want to start playing a multiplayer strategy game between us, and we're looking for the kind of long-term games that last weeks. Browser games seem to be the best choice, but perhaps there's an iPhone or Android game that fits the bill? Neptune's Pride is almost exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, but you have to pay to be able to create a game, which isn't what I want.
  • Is there a war strategy game that can be played on iphone and online? I'm looking for the best war strategy game. And if possible one that can be played on the iPhone and Mac. If I leave off playing on one device, I can pick back up from the other device. Are there any out there?
