Has technology enhanced the message of Christianity or hindered it?
Technology has certainly helped facilitate the spread of all sorts of things, but its advance seems also to have compromised some of the experience of faith, in my opinion. This society has become the society of instant gratification, where everything about life assumes a sort of self-involved state that vanity sites such as Facebook promote, to the detriment of "real", plain-old, boring life.
The simple ideas of faith also resonate more hollowly, as the transforming power of spirituality is muted; these days, mega-churches with stadium seating and massive, effect-laden screens, electronic music, and ministers who strive to have as much appeal as rock stars, have made mush out of the humble simplicity that Jesus stood for. How can a simple nature setting, or the quiet solitude of a small church, with its worn pews, laden with the cares of so many entrenched deeply as the fragant oil rubbed into their surfaces by the patient hands of tired women, compare to the synapse-overload that is our modern society? Would people stand in line for days to hear the gospel, or is such a phenomenon reserved only for the latest edition of the iPhone?
What do you think? Your thoughts and input are deeply appreciated.
The 16th century technology called the printing press hindered the forgery mill of the Church, somewhat.
The Internet, the information super highway, should IMHO, be a big deterrent to religious growth.
Technology exposes people to new information and different beliefs.
It's part of the reason religion is declining.
As Pope Francis has said, the internet is a gift from God. It gives us even more ways to spread the Good News of Jesus.
A person can know these things and many other truths if he or she practices devotion to the

Technology reveals reality faster and makes religion seem more absurd…
Fully agree with you, you are not alone in thinking this way, which is why there's lots of hope for future, the cream always rises to the top
If the apostle had the technology that Christianity haha today they would be happier than pigs in mud.
Teaching has been outdated ever since America got rid of slavery…
I was kidding, actually I'm not Christian. And I didn't plan to study Christianity much.
But you see I stumble upon information about the religion more and more without intending.
I'd say technology didn't hinder anything it widespread everything.
Depend on the way you spread the message.
Hindering is just a "point of view" as I see.
Albiet I'm not a chiristian, I agree the personal values of small churches making communities into families is diminishing. This may have been the strongest suit religion could play, the ability to bring people together. Now, it's rare that people know each others' next door neighbors. Standing in line for the next iPhone most people wish that everyone else would go away. Only if all their wishes could be granted at the same time. Haha. Anyway, as a humanist, I can't seem to equate how to prevent this disease from spreading.
When I go to church I don't look at the structure or the people. I go to worship and hear from God alone. This explains why I seldom enjoy going to church as much as I should. I have not really found one where they want spiritual revival in our day or concentrate on prayer. It is about everything but that.
So the internet I can find what I want without any prejudice. I can learn new things on my own time. Knowledge is what I use the internet for.
Take care.
Technology doesn't seem to change. Like fire, it can either help you or burn you.
According to your logic. The best thing for you to do in order to save your soul is to through out anything remotely modern and become an Old Order Amish. Oh the joy of using things like washboards and out houses. Not to mention all the fun you can have at the weekly quilting bee.
Just today I read an article that claims that since "The Internet " people are turning away from religion in greater numbers.
No real gods or devils or heavens or hells exist anywhere outside of any ones inculcated minds! Faith is only an excuse word when you have no reasons for your beliefs, where as if you had even one reason then your beliefs and your faith would be totally unnecessary! Basing a life on beliefs of faith is as useless as hunting for big game with a pea shooter!
- Will my message be delivered if sent as text message on iphone? My friend said that she was having phone problems earlier today. My message was being sent as an imessage, but I guess she wasn't receiving everyone of them, just getting the notifications that they were sent to her but she couldn't read them. I then responded to her, but it was sent as a text message this time and i have gotten no response. I'm not as much concerned about her responding or not, I just want to know if she will receive the message.
- Why won't my 5c send a message as MMS when it's a long message to a non iPhone user? Whenever I type a LONG message to an SMS user (says Text Message in the messaging "box") my 5c won't convert to MMS and the recipient gets the message in dozens of out of order messages instead of the whole fluid message. I have MMS on in Settings. What can I do and why is it doing this?
- Why is my iphone making the message tone but no message? My iphone, for the first ever time made the message tone and I have no message? There's no app on my phone that makes the same sound either I have checked, apart from tweet on settings, but I don't even have twitter… I received a message 20 Minuits before this happened but I read it and replied… I have a lot of storage on my phone so it can't be that either… So what is it?
- What does this mean: Free Msg: Receiver unable to receive message - Message Blocking is active mean on iPhone's iMessage? I tried sending my friend a text and it replied with this. We haven't gotten into any fights and we hung out for hours recently. Has she blocked me?
