Help buying ebooks with Apple?

I want to buy some books, but the ones I want aren't available on the iBooks store. I don't really want to buy from an Amazon account as I've got quite a lot of balance on my iTunes account and I don't really have anything else to spend it on. Can I buy books on the kindle app using my balance from the iTunes store, or does it come from the Amazon account balance?

Thank goodness. I recommend you never buy iBooks because Apple is the only major ebook publisher that does not offer reader software for other hardware - no PC reader app, No Android reader app. You can ONLY read iBooks on Apple hardware.

Anyway - you can install the free Kindle reader app and Nook reader app on your Apple hardware. Amazon has apps for Mac, iPad, iPhone

I will talk about Amazon and Kindle reader but Barnes & Noble works the same way for the Nook reader.

Your Amazon account MUST have a credit or debit card to buy ebooks, even free ebooks, even if you have a gift card balance. All instant purchases require a credit or debit card be in the account settings. It can be a parent's card if they let you use it. I think it can't be a debit card you buy in a store - I think the card needs a name on it.

Then you install your reader app and register it to your Amazon account.

Then browse to Amazon, log in, and near the Buy button of ebooks you can choose 'Deliver to" and pick your newly registered reader app. Then buy the ebook.

You can't use an iTunes balance to buy ebooks at any other company.
