I spilled nail polish remover on my iPhone
I have an iphone 4, 32GB. I bought it from Best Buy last October and my service is through AT&T.No, I do not have any type of warranty.
So this morning I was at my friend's house and using this sponge type of nail polish remover, where you stick your finger in this red sponge and it removes your nail polish. I accidentally tipped the container and the nail polish remover in the sponge seeped out and some spilled onto the very top of my iPhone. I do have a clear screen cover so no remover actually touched the screen, but I'm afraid some got into the top speakers headphone jack and the lock button.
As soon as the remover spilled on my phone, I immediately flipped it over (trying to get the remover off the phone so it didn't seep into the phone itself) and wiped it off. However, initially after it was spilled, the lock button was not working and the "power off" option kept popping up, but after about 30 seconds to a minute it began functioning normally again. So far, it hasn't acted weird again, and I even called someone to make sure that the top speaker works (it did). I also put headphones in to make sure that the jack still worked (they do).
What I'm wondering, is will the remover have a long term affect and eventually break the phone? I didn't spill that much on it, and it was only on the top part. Also, the remover was non-acetone, I know that Acetone is an acid and would've eaten away at the inside of the phone, but will non-acetone remover just dry up and not harm it? Because I can't afford another one. Or to pay for the repairs of this one if it breaks!
Tragic
You're fine.
Rule of thumb for water damage: after the initial glitchiness, if your phone is fine after 24 hours, there's nothing wrong with it.
Acetone is an acid yes, but it's unlikely that it would have been able to short out the phone.
Since it's non-acetone AND nail polish remover, it probably all evaporated quickly and as you ascertained, had no noticeable effect on your phone.
Quitcher worrying and enjoy your phone! ;]

- Spilled nail polish remover on my iPhone? - 1 I just got a iPhone 5 (shitty phone) but I spilled nail polish remover on it and it didn't touch the screen but it touched the back and you can see water marks when you turn on my phone. It's sitting in rice because that helps with water problems but will this kill my phone? How can I help it?
- Nail polish remover on my iPhone? I accidentally spilled nail polish remover on my iPhone 6s. At first nothing happened, but then I looked and there's a gray haze on the top part of the screen. Everything else works fine. I had it in rice for about a day and a half and now am using it. I called apple and have an appointment set up to have them see what they can do, but does anyone know if this will be just a screen repair or a full phone repair? Should I not use it until the appointment (2 days from now)?
