How do I find the owner of an iPhone 7 with a broken/glitching screen?

My friend found an iPhone 7 while camping While looking for his other friends phone, which was not an iPhone. This iPhone looks like it had been lost for a long time, and I'm not sure if it's been reported lost or stolen. The screen is cracked, but also glitches and goes dark after about 2 seconds and can't be unlocked, but I have access to the SIM card and the sim number. Is there any way I can find who lost this phone? Or sell it without worry of getting in trouble for possessing a lost phone at an ecoATM?

Call the place that sells them and they might be able to tell you how to find the owner

You can't sell it legally, since it's not yours. You can either turn it in to the police, or take it to your local Apple store or Best Buy. They may be able to track down the owner.

You could try asking Siri "Whose iPhone is this?"

Or take it in to the carrier where the SIM came from.

You don't need to find the owner.

Simply turn the phone in at a police station or other law enforcement office
or at a phone store.

Try plugging it into a computer. The name and details should pop up. But in my opinion if the screen is f***** they probably just chucked it away.
