How do people get their pictures to look vintage/old/worn out? (examples)?

I noticed that it's mostly the grain and color change that makes them look vintage. How can i add the grains/washout color to them?

i don't have photoshop or instagram (and i don't want them)

Are there any websites/iphone apps (free) that let me make pictures look old/vintage/worn out?
Or how can i make my picture worn out instead of just leaving it out in the sun for a long time

Try the app VSCO Cam, it has grain and vintage filters and I believe it is free.

No filters needed. Shoot in a higher ISO than needed. Many cameras have a sepia mode.

Press Ctrl->U and a window will popup, And pit the saturation bar to minimum then press Ok, And Press Ctrl->. And a another window will popup, And Give it some Red and Yellow. It will give you a Old look for your image.
