How do planetarium apps work?

Specifically how does the phone know which way it's pointing? I know about accelerometers and GPS, but I'm pretty sure my phone does not have a compass.

Added (1). OK, I missed that. It does have a Hall sensor according to the specs. But it does not show up under the settings menu, and there does not seem to be a built-in app that uses it, which seems a bit weird. It's an Asus ME173X, and was not especially expensive (no 3G).

What type of phone do you have? The iPhone has a compass, so does the Galaxy and most Android devices. GPS is a compass also. You can down load compass apps that use GPS Yup, receive at least GPS signals, and the rest is spherical geometry.

  • When i backup my Itunes. Does it save my apps and the memory in my apps? I have to backup my Iphone 4 to Itunes because i'm afraid it's going to break again. I don't want to lose my information in my apps. Cause i have a music app with over 300 songs and i don't want to lose them and have to re download them? Any help

And I'm learning java I know I could learn it on mac but I know my way around windows better.   • ITunes on Apps tab Says Install on Some Apps? I have a couple apps on my iTunes that say Install instead of the usual Remove. I've noted that these apps are the apps that I've had and then deleted, but not all of my deleted apps are on there. How do I remove these apps from my iPhone's iTunes? On iTunes 11, right click --> delete does not show up. On iTunes 11, going to the library and manually deleting them doesn't work either.

Last night my phone was freezing up so I turned it off and back on and when it restarted I had no messaging, phone, settings, iTunes, App Store, etc and I've turned it on and off and reset it several times. When I get a text I can see that I got it but when I click on it nothing happens I can't view the message.
