How do you get into a locked iPhone?

I just found my old iPhone 5c for my boyfriend to use because his phone is f***** so now he doesn't have one. But the phone has a passcode on it and I tried everything i could think of that the password might be and none of them are working. Is there a way I can get into the phone without taking it to the Apple store? If I have to do that I will but it's in the city and I don't go there often. And I can't get on Siri either because for some reason the phone has no service so therefore no internet. The time on the phone is also like totally messed up. I already got locked out twice and I currently am for 5 min. Is there a simple way I can get in to the phone or am I hopeless?

I'm not sure if this works on every phone but sometimes you can swipe on camera but I'm sure that it doesn't let you do anything else but you can always try and by reading this it seems that you don't trust him I'm not judging or anything I hope that everything is sorted soon

You can't.

You would need to put the phone in DFU mode and restore it in iTunes. This of course will erase everything off of the phone for security.

However, if the phone has an iCloud account associated with it with Find My iPhone enabled, you will need to enter that account when you setup the phone after it has been restored.

Simple. You can't.

If you don't have the security credentials needed to get past the security then you're in exactly the same situation that a thief would be, and if there was a bypass for you they could use it too.

The only way, if you still have proof of ownership, plus proof of your ID and address, is to pay Apple to reset the phone.

Even after that you have an iPhone model which is no longer supported by Apple, so it could be a waste of money especially if they also find that after a long period of disuse that the battery is also nearly useless.

The good news is that unsupported models sell for little money, even if boxed and in almost new condition, and that even if not working yours still has some resale value for spare parts. So if he has to have an iPhone 5 or 5c (the same model except for the outer casing) then you can get one in excellent condition with a warranty from any reputable secondhand phone shop for little money.

Wait until you go into town so you can take it to the Apple store.
