How to remove and add pins from/to a secondary wiring harness?
So I'm upgrading my 1999 Honda Accord EX to a pioneer avh-p8400BH so that I can have the advanced app mode on the iPhone and navigation. I have purchased an aftermarket wiring harness from amazon, but it doesn't have the pin I need that corresponds to the steering wheel pin inside the factory harness. I know, very confusing, I hope your with me… Anyway, I want to take a pin out of a second harness that I will purchase, and make a pin 3 for the aftermarket one so that I won't have to cut any wires whatsoever from my factory harness, for the steering controls to work. Will this work? Also, does it matter what color the wiring is for me to use that pin? I believe as long as there's a pin in the correct place for it to mate with my female factory connector they should sync up well, right? Because, basically, its just all metal wiring that an electrical signal is being sent through. How do I insert the pin into the secondary harness and "lock it" in place as if it where made that way? I hope this makes since everyone, thanks for your help.

Also, a reviewer actually posted that he had done this EXACT same thing to the product, he just ordered a second one and hacked it up getting the pin out. I believe its better to waste a few bucks then damaging my factory harness.

This review is from: Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black) (Electronics)
Used this on my 2008 Honda Accord EX-L when installing new JVC KW-NT500HDT headunit. I didn't have to do any button codes or special combinations or anything; i just pressed the button on this device like the instructions said to do, and it worked. I did have to add two pins to the Metra Wiring harness (the main factory Honda connector DOES have steering wheel pins in it, but the Metra wiring harness i used did not have them), i used a second Metra wiring harness as a suicide cable and stole two pins from it. On the Honda, pressing Volume Up/Down works as expected, Channel Up/Down seeks forward and backward on the selected AM/FM mode, and pressing the MODE button switchs between FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM."
To do it correctly, you will need a pin insertion/extraction tool.
You can find them in electronic supply stores or on ebay. There's a really wide price range for these items.
