How is the word for what pronounced in japanese?

Ok so i just finished the bleach series subbed and everytime they said what they said nani and i think it's weird because on the translator voice app for iphone it prounced it nan also i noticed when its a question not just the word what the word sounds different can someone lease fill me in

In general, "nani" becomes "nan" if it leads into "desu" or "da" ("nanda kore ha!" - what's this!) or a counter word like "kai" ("nankai?" - what floor?)

  • Your Japanese radio recommendation? To practice listening to Japanese I listen to Japanese talk radio. My favorite station that I found was Sea Wave 76.2 FM Iwaki.
