How much are you paying for an iPhone with Tmobile?

I've been wanting an iPhone for a while, and when Tmobile started carrying them I got really exited. Until I saw the price. Are people really paying 600$ or more for just a phone? Is that the real price or is that the price they show so you think you're getting an amazing deal?
I'm also due for an upgrade. Would that help the price at all, or would it do nothing?

That is the cost of the iPhone without a subsidy. T-Mobile no longer offers contracts, thus no longer subsidizes phones. Really, you are saving money as you are paying the same for the phone at other carriers. They just make you think you are getting a good deal, but the real cost of the phone is built into the cost of your plan.

You can still upgrade your phone, but again they are no longer subsidizing phones (previously you would be eligible to upgrade your phone when your contract was due for renewal and they would subsidize the cost of the phone to lock you into another contract).

If you are interested, there's a new JUMP insurance program. You pay $10 a month and you can upgrade your phone every six months. If you are still paying for the phone you are using, they will credit that and you can start on new payment plans (you have to turn in the old phone). Our family opted out of it because in addition to the $10 a month there's a service fee for each time you make a claim along with deductibles.

T-Mobile does offer payment plans. I purchased my iPhone directly from Apple before T-Mobile even offered the iPhone, but my teens just got iPhones (the 5c). They had to make a small down payment (it was less than $50 for each of them) and then they pay a 20-something dollar a month payment for 24 months (this is in addition to the cost of the plan, but of course T-Mobile has great rates).
