How Much Should I Bring to Go to Canada 10pt?
I'm planning to go there to study. How much should I bring for transportation and other stuff? Homestay and school my parents are taking care of it. Would taking a cab after I get off the train be expensive? I'm scared of getting lost when it comes to taking buses and trains and I don't know how to use iPhone GPS.
How could we possibly tell you? We don't know how long you're staying or what you think you might have to spend money on while you're there. How much the cab will cost depends on how far you have to go in it.
You do realize that Canada is a large country, don't you? WHERE in Canada? Taxis are enormously expensive. If you have to take a train to and from school, then you had better live near the school, or on campus. Taking the train would be ridiculous. Trains are for long distance and you would have to get to and from the train station. A taxi would be impractical.
Do you have your letter of acceptance from a college or university, that will allow you to get a study visa. You are asking about taxi fares, but you will need money for your fees (much higher for non Canadians) and your keep for the year when you arrive.
I'm planning to go there to study.
Good for you.
Seriously do you not think that other students also learn their way to and from the place they sleep and to school.
Will you get lost? MAYBE They have these things called MAPS in case you need one.
Would taking a cab after I get off the train be expensive? For one time not very much. EVERYDAY YES IT IS EXPENSIVE.
I'm scared of getting lost when it comes to taking buses and trains. IT HAPPENS So what can you not ask for help or directions from transit staff.
I don't know how to use iPhone GPS. SO WHAT. Ever heard of a PAPER MAP.
As you have not travelled some reason in particular you can't learn how to use the app BEFORE YOU GO?
Has it not occurred to you that your home stay family might assist you in getting to and from school? DO YOU THINK they might know of many ways for you to get there and travel around when not going to and from school.
How much should I bring for transportation and other stuff? What other stuff? WHAT transportation?
Day to day maybe you want a monthly transit pass. Maybe you buy a bicycle and ride for free. You might just WALK.
Your extra money above food and sleeping place is up to your parents.
Do you expect to be shopping EVERYDAY for stuff to fill up multiple suitcases with stuff to bring home?
You bring what you have and BUDGET how you spend it. Some reason in particular parents can't overtime add money to your bank account for you to use in Canada as you need it?
From your other question, you are coming to Vancouver. You bring a debit card with you and you can get Canadian money as you need it from any bank ATM. As you leave the international arrivals area at the airport, to the left just before you leave the terminal there's an ATM belonging to the Royal Bank of Canada. If you can't see it, just ask anyone in a uniform. Bank ATMs give the best exchange rate.
When my Canadian daughter and I were living in LA, I got her a debit card of her own at age 13 attached to her account and she just used that for her spending needs. I transferred money into that account for her required expenses as well as her allowance.
And yes taking cabs is expensive, The people you are staying with will instruct you in your transportation needs.
As for using GPS on a phone, it is so easy that when you figure it out, you will be embarrassed to admit you never knew. If in doubt, go to youtube and so a search for a video for instructions. Either for Apple or android, But really most of us figure it out just by fooling with it.
Using GPS on an Iphone is pretty easy. Just open the app, put in where you want to go and where you're leaving from it should give you directions via car, bus, biking or walking.
I would suggest taking public transit, walking or biking as much as possible. Taking taxis every where (even uber) in down town Toronto can get expensive. So find some where to live that's as close to school as possible. Totonto has street cars and subways to help you get around the city with out using taxis.
Get a checking account where they can wire money to you, that you can use a debit card or credit card from to help pay for your expenses.
Even if you do get lost, find a gas station or a hotel that can give you directions. Or use the GPS on your phone. Some time subway attendants can help you out with directions too.
