My two teens just got the iPhone 5c about a week ago. Each of them had to pay a down payment (and taxes). I do not remember the exact amount, but it was less than $50. They also have to pay $20/month for 24 months for the phone itself (not the service). Since their lines are "additional lines" that cost only $10 a month on our account, that is $1 a day for them.
