How should I charge my iPhone 5c?

I've had my phone for 2 months. I usually charge it when it's 20% or lower. I also charge it almost every night. So I charge it 2 times a day and I sometimes charge it before I have to go somewhere.Am I charging it too much? I want my battery to last a long time. Is there a certain percentage that you charge it at? Is it bad to charge it overnight?

The battery shelf life is to low.

IPhones, along with all other smartphones today use lithium ion batteries. You can charge them whenever you like, and you don't have to worry about battery deterioration. Just be smart about where you store your phone, not too cold or hot. Older batteries, like nickel metal hydrides had more limitations (you had to run them down all the way before you could charge etc.) When you are charging your phone for long periods of time, your phone knows to shut off the electricity for charging, only allowing it once in a while to top the charge off.

So overall, don't worry, Apple wouldn't make a product that wouldn't last their consumers for a long time.

Nancy, all/most smartphones need to be charged once every 24 hours. If you're charging it more often, it may be a prudent idea to cut down on some of iOS 7's features to save you some battery life. As an answer to your question, I wouldn't worry about overcharging the battery. Yours is brand new and it is lithium.

But here are some tips on saving battery life.

1) On the home screen, slide up. Disable Bluetooth and AirDrop unless you use them.
2) On this same menu, lower your brightness (it's easier on your eyes too)
3) In Settings > General > Accessibility turn on "Reduce Motion." This "moving background" effect looks cool but uses a lot of juice.
4) In Settings > Privacy > Location Services turn off all the services you DO NOT use. Location sucks the life out of your battery. Also you can turn off the System Services locations.
5) In Settings > General > Spotlight disable anything you don't need to search through. I.e. Podcasts
