How to add a ringtone on an Iphone 4?

I want to know how you can add a song perhaps as a ringtone, but I can't seem to find a video or website that can help me. Can someone tell me how to add a ringtone without having to pay or download anything crazy. I have an iphone 4 btw

I recommend using mp3 ringtone maker, then connecting your phone to your computer, going to iTunes>Apps>scroll down to the app name> save it to your computer>File>Add File to Library> Add the ringtone you just saved> and sync it to your phone

IPhone 4S Ok so I bought some ringtones and I wanted to set them as my ringtones for text messages and stuff but when I go to Settings > Sounds, and lets say I select Ringtone, it shows the list of different ringtones that allready come with the iPhone but it doesn't show what I purchased. Where are they? What do I do?
