How to connect my laptop to router?

Please take the time to read the entire story.

I've had WPA2-PSK and wanted to change it to WEP to connect my DS to Wi-Fi since it can only connect to WEP.
I typed in my Default Gateway into the browser and was about to change the wireless security. But I decided that I should change my SSID first to see if the small change would keep everything the same. I changed the first letter of the SSID from lower case to upper case and applied the changes. I then lost connection to the Internet on my laptop where I was doing the changes.
On the network list it did change and it shows up with the upper case letter but it won't connect to the Internet.
Please, what do I do to fix this? I tried unplugging the router and plugging it back in an it still doesn't work.
I have a Belkin router.

I typed in this question through my iPhone 4s using 3G to connect.

For a wireless connection, you must make everything in the laptop match the router. You may have to have the laptop forget the previous connection info and reenter it from scratch.

Generally routers are programmed from a wired computer for this very reason. Do you have a wired computer connected to the router? If so, use that. If not, turn the wireless off in the laptop, connect it with a cable to the router and let the router assign the laptop an IP. Set the router as you need it. Then disconnect the cable, turn on the wireless on the laptop and reestablish a Wi-Fi connection from scratch.

Have your laptop look for new wi-fi connections.
Then find the SSID you changed to.
Connect to it. You will have to enter the password again to connect.
After you do this once, it should connect automatically after that.

NOTE: You will have to do this after any change to the SSID, password, encryption type, and other settings. (like changing to WEP) Which I would not advise you to do. It is very in-secure.

  • What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150

  • One laptop can connect to our home Wi-Fi network but no other devices can connect? We recently set up a wireless internet connection in our house. One laptop can connect to it (the one I'm currently on) but no other devices can connect to it. It says our "Network Security Key" is mismatched. I have tried typing in all the different codes on both the router and modem on both our second laptop and an iPhone 5. How can I fix this?
  • My Wi-Fi won't connect on my laptop but will connect to my other devices (an iPhone and iPad)? I have a MacBook Air. Sometimes it does connect but other times it just won't. It takes ages connecting and then in the end comes up with the exclamation mark or is just blank. Is this a problem with my laptop? I've tried researching the problem but have found nothing.
