How to download latest version of itunes on an OS X Mac?

I have an OS X Macbook Pro. When I updated my phone and plugged it into the computer it said that it couldn't interact with the phone until itunes was updated to 11 or something like that. When I tried downloading that update it requires my computer have the 10.6.8 update, which I can't get because that requires a 10.6 Snow update. All I want to do is change the songs on my iphone

Unfortunately, you don't really have much of a choice then. Your only option would be to actually upgrade to a newer version of OS X.

You will need to purchase Snow Leopard. Or check your specs and see if you can go directly to Mavericks, which is OS 10.9 and is free to download.

To be sure your iTunes is as up to date as possible, click the Apple logo in the top menu bar, and choose "Software Update". You can never use the latest iTunes with OS 10.5.8.

If you want the "latest" iTunes, buy a newer computer. Old Macs can't use the latest iTunes, latest OS version. To use the latest iTunes, you need Mid 2007 or newer MacBook Pro.
