How to enable VPN before Wi-Fi (iPhone)?

I use the OpenVPN iPhone app to and I'd like to know one thing:

Is there a way to connect, or at least let it ready, to connect on the VPN just after I enable the wireless?

I'm asking this because every time I enable my wireless and it connects to my Wi-Fi internet, in like about 3 seconds my iPhone gets all notifications, emails, etc… I have no time to connect to the VPN before I got all this data. My concern is because my phone downloads it automatically using an "insecure" connection before I even can open the OpenVPN app. Do you guys have a solution or maybe an advice/suggestion?

It's not possible to connect to a VPN before Wi-Fi, because the Wi-Fi provides the means of connecting to a VPN. They could however, add some delay before data is transmitted over that Wi-Fi network, allowing users like yourself time to start their VPNs. (This is something that makes me crazy as well)

When you connect to a Wi-Fi network data is immediately being transmitted over that network. Your accounts are automatically signing into get updates (and your usernames and passwords are being sent) and that communication has long been completed before you can turn on your VPN to take advantage of the encryption that it offers.

One thing that stood out to me about your post, you said YOUR Wi-Fi network. If you're at home and have security set up on your router (like WPA2), the data going over your local network is already encrypted. For this reason, most people don't use VPNs from their home network unless it's required for business. In addition, most sites/services that require a sign in process already encrypt that process using SSL. This means that while signing into google for example, that data stays encrypted even after it leaves your network and makes it journey to googles servers.

All in all, much of what needs to be encrypted already is, in multiple layers, and if your home network is configured correctly, its protected from other people "sniffing" the data. But remember, places like coffee shops offer no security or encryption, and during that delay of you trying to sign into your VPN, someone could have already snatched something up.

  • How to use an iPhone 4s key to enable siri on my iPhone 4? I can't find any updated guides on how to do this. I don't want to go a free route, since I have access to an iPhone 4s. The iPhone 4s is not jailbroken, but the iPhone 4 is. I've read through the process for getting the key, and I think I can do it. Also, I have a mac. My question is, how do I actually go about setting everything up? I have Acid Siri installed currently, is it an acceptable GUI?
