How to fix iPhone 4 (5.1.1, JB) boot loop (no lockscreen, only apple logo)

My friend gave it to me to fix. Volume Up button to force into safe mode does not work. It will not enter DFU (unsure if home button works, but he says it does). Redsn0w does not detect it, neither does iTunes nor the PC. It must be plugged into a power source to power on (it will still power on and loop even if the battery is removed)

The loop is only shows the Apple logo, it does not go to the homescreen.

It has been jailbroken.

Turn the phone off, Hold down the home button and whilst doing that plug it into the PC with USB. Continue holding down the home button until it reaches the iTunes screen with a USB icon on the screen, then you can use iTunes with it and restore.
