How to fix my broken iPhone 3gs?

My iPhone is broken and haven't done anything to it. It just died on me earlier today. When connecting it to my computer it states that I need to restore the settings but it is unable to do this. An error code comes up reading 1603. I've tried everything but don't know what to do!
Is there any way of fixing it? (I don't have a warranty on it.)

The iPhone 3GS is such an old model of phone that I'm not sure if there anyway of fixing them, I could be wrong though.
If you have the money to splash then contact Apple directly as they will know what to do, they know how to sting you though so be prepared for a large quote! I do know that the iPhone 3G doesn't accept any further iOS updates, this could be the case for the 3GS now?

Another option is to finally upgrade your phone, wait a little while though as the iPhone 5 is supposedly due out this autumn, I still got over a year of contract left on my 4S but I have my ways of upgrading early, because I will so want the 5!

Actually 3GS is now free with a 2 year contract, why bother with it if you contract is up, just get or extend a 2 year contract and get a new one free or go up to iphone 4 for a real low price.
