How to get free Wi-Fi on an iphone?

Okay so, i've just got a new iphone 4 and its on pay-as-you-go and its on EE and its on this dolfin tarif thing and i was just wondering how i could get free Wi-Fi when i'm in places like school or just around in town so i could get onto snapchat and facebook… Etc
i've tried the personal hotspot and everything in settings i think and i've tryed haveing a look on youtube and all they say is it has to be jailbroken or you have to pay… I don't mind paying with the money on my phone if i HAVE to but i would rather not and i got a text of orange saying i only have 1GB of internet a month but it doesn't seem to work in school only when i'm at home and if i do connect at school it will have full bars but i still can't get internet acsess? So could someone please help!

You just turn on your Wi-Fi, then you will be able to receive free Wi-Fi where ever free wfif is available.

Open Settings and turn on Wi-fi.

Settings - Wi-Fi, turn Wi-Fi on and then choose a Wi-Fi network in that same area and join it. If it needs a password ask for that password.

As long as your Wi-Fi is on you can latch on to any open network without a password

Whether or not the Wi-Fi is free has nothing to do with the phone. It has everything to do with the owner of the Wi-Fi router. Go to Settings on your phone and look for Wi-Fi without a padlock symbol. That's it. No jailbreak will make it otherwise.
You can ask in school for an access code, but there's no reason why they should give you one.
