How to get my iMessage to work?

I have iPhone 3GS. It's on 5IOS I believe. I can't get my iMessage to work. I have tried turning iMessage tab off and on and all it says is waiting for activation. When attempting to MSG someone on iPhone, it does go blue but when sending, says not delivered. In the settings it says verifying for the phone number. It won't let me click on it or anything. I have a jail broken phone so can't restore etc etc. It's frustrating as I have no signal where I live and so I need this to contact people. If anyone can help I would appreciate it! Like I said, I've tried all the basics. Even apple website just say turn off then back on etc etc.

You have to be linked to Wi-Fi I think

To use imessage
a) make sure that the Phone No you are contacting is listed as their 'iPhone' No
(in contacts) not just their mobile No.

or
b) if it is an iPod/iPad, their apple ID is listed.

however if it is going blue, but not going
1) you probably have no data connection
(or perhaps you have Wi-Fi, but it is not working - turn off Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi if present will always be used even if it has not onward connection)
2) The message settings can be set to fall-back to text if not data is available (and it should normally do this) not just go to failed to send.

both no texts and/or no data (iMsg is data)
suggests that the iPhone has the wrong Network settings.
So get the network webpage or Helpline to send them to the phone again.
(need to reboot afterwards)

try getting the network setttings sent again
(that would also suggest that internet / youtube, maps and browsing does not work either?)

At random times, whenever I try to iMessage my friend who has just a iPod Touch, where you type in the message will say "Text Message" instead of "iMessage." is there a way to fix this so it will always send as a iMessage instead of Text?

  • How to send an SMS instead of iMessage, without turning iMessage off? Is there any way to send SMS's by default to one certain contact whom has an iPhone, while leaving iMessage on? My friend doesn't receive my iMessages even though he has an iPhone so I've been turning iMessage off to text him regularly then turning it back on because I contact others using iMessage. But I just realized it charges me a little bit every time I turn iMessage back on. So is there a way to send an SMS instead of and iMessage without turning it on and off?
