How to get on the internet using my Wi-Fi on XP?

I purchased a refurb laptop and I can't access the internet through Wi-Fi. It says i'm connected fine but when I try to get on the internet a dial up connection box pops up. I don't want to use dial up internet because I don't have it. I'm trying to get on the internet using the hot spot from my iphone.

There might either be a manual switch somewhere on the laptop to turn the wireless device on (assuming it has one), or possibly Fn key along with a key that looks like a radio tower. When you look at network devices in Windows does it show a wireless network device and is it enabled? If Windows was reinstalled and your laptop has a wireless device, maybe the driver was not installed for it.

If all else fails, or the device in the laptop is not working properly, you could always get a USB Wi-Fi dongle. I have one old laptop where the built-in Wi-Fi does not work as reliably as it should or is often weak (maybe from getting bumped around too much).

  • Why does my iPhone still charge for Internet even when I'm not using Internet? So, I recently got a pay monthly plan with my new iPhone 4s. When i'm out and about I'm usually updating my twitter and Facebook account. But, when I'm put my phone down, 3G still says I'm using it and charging me. So do I have to turn it off when i'm finished? Or is there a much easier way?
  • My Iphone is not letting me access the internet or internet based apps? I have an Iphone 5. Never had any issues but now it won't connect to the internet or any apps. It does the same thing it does when I have no service (just has that little circle symbol that means it's trying to get through). Orginally, I thought it must be a universal problem but everyone else has service and they are in the same location as me. Also I always use my phone here with no problems. I have tried turning it off and on again but nothing.
