How to get rid of the other data on my iPhone 4?

I've had my iPhone 4 (16GB) since October 2011. I've always had problems with space since I have so many things I enjoy having on my phone and have only a small amount of space, but I've gone through and deleted most of my apps and kept only my few favorites. I only have 4 music videos on my phone, and other than that I have no other videos, and I've deleted more than 3/4 of my pictures and only have about 800 - 900. But now I have 4.11 GB of "other" data on my phone. I've tried researching to see what it is but I still don't understand. Is it emails? Texts? Corrupted data? If you know please help me with this problem. I'd like to resolve it without restoring my phone since I don't have enough space on my laptop for a back-up, but if I need to I can restore it. Please please please help.

That's a matter you have to handle by deciding what to do with memory I have a 8 gig iPhone 4, I know it sucks but try deleting a lot of pictures it takes up so much space

When you first get your iPod/iPhone whatever, automatically (depending on how many gb's you have, about 1 GB goes to the stuff already hardwired on it (the apps automatically up there, the processing, etc) So, at least part of it is that. It could also be saved 'cookies' or files that remember you when you go onto a website (like search information/passwords). Videos also take up a lot of space, even short 5 minute ones. Texts could be a lot, depending on how many you have. Same with emails.

This is how iPhones order used storage:

Videos: all movies, music videos, and TV shows stored on the iPhone itself
Photos and Camera: every photo you've downloaded to view on your iPhone or you've taken
Music: all songs and podcasts
Apps: all apps and the data they use up

Other: anything else. This includes all settings, texts (including videos and pictures sent through text and iMessage, sent or received), browser history, cookies, and cache, email, and, most importantly, the operating system.

You can't delete the operating system (it takes up at least a GB or more of space). I used to have a problem with the "Other" space but then I deleted all my text messages, including video messages I sent and it went down almost 3 GB.

What also works is a complete restore, if you have the space on your laptop to do so.

  • What is 'Other' storage on IPhone 4 and how to get rid of it? I have just over a gb worth of other storage i have tried wiping and restoring my iphone. I know there are some apps to view the 'other' but i don't want to pay for them, is there any free apps similar to this without jailbreak or any other ways to get rid of it?

  • I'm trying to get rid of Other on iPhone 5? I know this is a tired question because no one can figure out how to truly remove the (5GB in my case) excess of "other" on the iPhone because it apparently might be due to corrupted files. I've tried everything I can find online to no avail. I really don't want to resolve to starting a new phone because I need my current photos, contacts and messages. Any suggestions?
  • How to get rid of the other category in my iPhone's usage The "other" section is currently taking up 7.5GB of my iPhone's capacity (so ridiculous)! I've tried everything: deleting contacts, deleting conversations, deleting apps, and even RESTORING MY IPHONE. But it still is taking up basically half of my usage! Please someone tell me how I can get rid of, or at least drastically reduce, the "other" section.
