How to just upgrade to IOS 8 not ios 9?

I recently just got an Iphone 5 (i'm new to apple, i've been using android for a while) and it has IOS 7.1. Some of the apps i want to download require IOS 8+ but when i go to update the only option is IOS 9, but i have friends who have IOS 9 and it gives them a lot of problems. So is there anyway to just get IOS 8?
