How to know if my iphone 4 is factory unlocked?

I bought it of my friend on Friday, she put in the request to unlock it (at&t). She got a response saying wait a few days for a respond. Today she told me AT&T emailed her saying to just restore it to unlocked it. So I backed it up, then restored it to my backup… Then nothing. Was I suppose to restore it completely then back it up? Because I restored it to my back up but I'm not sure if that makes a difference. How do I know whether it was successful or not? (I didn't get any message saying my phone is now unlocked.)

Try another sim card on your phone another carrier aside from at&t and see if it works.

Only way is to insert SIMs from 2 different companies. You say it was an AT&T locked one initially so use one of those & then someone else's like T-Mobile. If it accepts the T-Mobile SIM then you are good to go.
