How to know if you've hit the genetics lottery?

I'm currently playing for my highschools basketball team and I'm a point guard. I'm 5'10 and I have a 6'5 wingspan, my dad is 6'3 and my mom is 5'6. I was recently researching on how the famous NBA point guard Derrick Rose became so athletic and all I've seen so far is that it was genetics and hard work that got him where he is. What I'm worried about is genetics, I can already grab the rim and I'm pretty fast and explosive but is there any way to know if I have genetic potential that could somehow compare to the genetics of Rose? How hard would I have to work to compare? I'm also African American. I've already asked this question before bit I couldn't find where to add additional details, I'm using a Iphone 4S

You have GREAT Genetics. Your 5"10 with a 6"5 wing span. So aslong as you keep growing and keep working hard youll be fine.

There's no way to quantify how hard you would need to work. Derrick Rose is an example of a person who has great athletic potential due to his great genetics, where he has a massive amount of quick twitch muscle fiber in his body. Typically, most people are 50/50 with slow and quick twitch muscle fiber. It sounds like you are fairly athletic already, but unless you have been training like an NBA player does, which is truly rigorous, then I doubt you have reached your ceiling.

Regardless, your genetics should not hold you back from being a great basketball player, whether that means you are the greatest leaper, or the greatest shooter, or the greatest rebounder, etc. You can't control your genetics, but you can work to maximize your genetic potential and surpass or overcome it. If you can't beat everyone you face with your athletic ability, play using your brain. The sky is the limit. Remember, you can either have the pain of hard work, or the pain of regret.
