How to make my connection better?
My family has 6 iPhone's, 4 laptops, a PC, and an Xbox 360 all running off a single router from Comcast.
We've always had very good connection then about 3 months ago we lost the good connection. On my laptop and phone, I get at the most, 2 bars. We have contacted Comcast multiple times to see what was going on and they don't know.
If I'm playing a game online on my Xbox 360 and someone goes on the internet on either a laptop, PC or iPhone, my game freezes and lags like crazy. I pretty much have to sit and wait for them to get off before I can play.
Is there something I can do to fix this? It drives me crazy! We don't have the money to spend on something to fix it so buying something isn't really an option.
Get Comcast to supply a new router or change your ISP if there service is not good enough!
You could try running an ethernet cord to your xbox and then see if other devices being on changes your gameplay at all. If so it probably is just your router.
How fast is your Comcast Internet connection?
Connect a laptop or PC directly to the router or gateway via Ethernet (don't use Wi-Fi) and make sure that you have exclusive use of your Internet connection. Either turn off the Wi-Fi on the router or check to make sure nothing is connected and sharing the Internet bandwidth.
Now go here http://speedtest.net/...edtest.net and test your connection speed. If the speed is not what you are paying for then call your Comcast and complain. If the speed is good then perform the same test using a Wi-Fi connection. If the result is considerably slower you need to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi settings and equipment.
Although Wi-Fi is convenient for mobility, wireless interference can cause it's connection speed and quality to vary wildly.
Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.
All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The connection may start at 300 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.
You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.
Your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection, especially for fixed devices that don't need mobility or devices used for serious gaming or video streaming. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.
That being said,
Naturally more speed is always better, however the tradeoff is price. Internet bandwidth is shared among all devices connected to your wireless router. So any bandwidth others are using will be deducted from the total Internet bandwidth that is available to you. In simple terms, the more users and devices you have, the more speed will be required.
Many people would be likely be surprised at how many active connections their wireless router has. I have dozens, cell phones, tablets, iPods, game consoles, laptops, desktops, ROKU boxes, Internet enabled devices such as TVs and audio receivers, and the list goes on.
Streaming video, such as Netflix or Hulu require a lot of bandwidth. Here are the minimum speed recommendations from Netflix.https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306
Unfortunately, the only real way to speed up your Internet connection is to get a faster ISP or speed tier.
- Which is better the Iphone 5s or the 5c i'm trying to decide which one is better? And what's the difference between these two phones can someone tell me please? I'm trying to decide which one to buy?
- What's better net10 or straight talk better as in cheaper? I want a smart phone so that would be about 300 dollars there. I want a cheap plan like 45 or 50 dollars a month for unlimited internet. How much is the iPhone 4 and can I use the 50 dollars unlimited for it.
- Should I upgrade to a better pc or a better phone? I currently have a terrible computer, at least 7 yrs old (ASUS laptop) I also have a terrible phone (iPhone 5c) which should I upgrade first? I was planning on getting a better pc, but than I realized how bad my phone was.
- Is it better to have more or less pixels per inch for better clarity? I'm not sure if that makes sense or if I have asked it correctly. What I mean is if the Iphone 5 has 326 PPI and a HTC has for instance 440 PPI which one would be better? So would that mean the pixels would be larger on a computer screen with retina display or would they have to be smaller?
