How to make powerful led flashlight at home?

I want a compact led light for reading while on the road or on the go. My flashlight is too bulky. And not only is it too bulky, but its less bright than my phone's LED light.

I'd like to buy a replacement iPhone or Samsung Galaxy s3 led bulb, but I wouldn't know how to utilize it. I figure it isn't as simple as a positive and negative contact with a battery. What's a better way to make one?

Buy one at a dollar store. They are cheaper than materials to DIY. But if you just want to mess around, buy a rope light. They are on sale right now. You get a bazillion little lights to play with.

Hmm… Well, there are LED's which are far more brighter than a conventional flashlight. So, here's what you need to do.
1. First, you need a power supply. And by power supply, i mean a rechargeable battery.
2. Second, you need to buy proper LED's. Buy according to your need as well as the capacity of the battery.
3. For high performance LED's, you would probably need a heat sink as well.
4. Then, you need to buy some wires, only to connect the terminals.
5. I would suggest that you also add a resistor to the circuit, just to avoid the LED's from burning (since the depletion layer can't handle too much current).
6. Finally, you need to solder all the things in a series connection and fit the whole thing in a casing.
7. The casing can also be an old flashlight cover.

Compact led flashlights aren't that expensive and probably would cost less or about the same price as making a good one. I've seen some small(1 to 2 inch) led flashlignts for 2 to 6 dollars at Walmart, Family Dollar, General Dollar, and Harbor Freight tools. If you can't buy one go to YouTube and search for kipkay led flashlight. This guy has made a lot of cool things from stuff you have laying around the house.
