How to play my music in my 2006 mustang?

I have a 2006 mustang. It just got fixed up and in good condition. I noticed a cigarette lighter in the console I can plug my charger in. It will charge my iphone and ipod, but it won't play the music on my device. I hit the AUX button and it says that there's no aux. I looked in my manual and could not find a way to fix this problem. I have no idea why this car has an AUX button or a mute button. Is there a way I can play my ipod or any other music device in this car?

There was no USB port in the console like what my moms 2012 mustang had which played my ipod when I drove it. All my car has is a cigarette lighter in the console. If anyone who knows the 2006 mustang a lot better than I do in the way it plays the radio portion, I would gladly accept all the help you can give.

AUX on those older cars were meant for the CD players. They will not have a USB or the ability to connect to any type of music device. That technology wasn't around in 2006 for the automotive industry. You will need to visit your local car audio or Best Buy & see if they offer a way to add something to make it happen

I think you should be able to plug your headphone jack on your ipod to the aux port on the head unit (car stereo). That should get you going. If that doesn't work, I'd say something is wrong. It's old technology, but it's meant to work with the headphone "output" and the AUX "input". Pretty simple. Also, if you have cassete player, you can buy a cassette adapter with a 3.5mm plug that connects to your ipod headphone port and that will play when the cassette plays. I did that on my 98 Malibu a while back.

Nowadays, you can get a new car stereo which supports USB and BlueTooth for about 100 bucks, USB only for less then that. Grab a cheap wiring harness and the install is pretty much plug n play if you're handy.
