How to prepare an iPhone for a trip to Alaska / Antartica?
I'm going on a trip to Alaska, Deadhorse and then a cruise to see the Arctic ocean. Is there a special cover or something I can use to protect the phone? I know batteries and phones don't do so well in extreme weather.
Having been on many Arctic/Alaska/Antarctic cruises the best suggestion is NEVER take on deck! When the ships are moving there's a constant cold wind blowing over the decks. The air contains a high concentration of salt which electronic equipment hates!
Don't forget you will HAVE TO sign up to the ships satellite system to get a connection at sea. Any contract with "free" minutes etc. You have will not apply. Ships rates are EXPENSIVE and you will also get an unexpected HIGH BILL for international roaming charges on received and data calls from your normal phone company when you get home!
- Will my iPhone 5 work in Alaska? I thank you in advance: D okay, so, I have the White 16 GB iPhone 5 BUT with STRAIGHT TALK. Will it work in Alaska? I've read mixed answers. People have said yes, since it's an iPhone. Some no. I'd just like to know for sure. I'm flying into Seattle, Washington then I'll be getting on a cruise boat June 30-July 7. I'm just curious as too if I will have service or not.
