How to protect my personal info when selling my iphone 4s?

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 5s from my 4s and am planning to sell the 4s on ebay. I figured I need to go into settings then icloud and delete my account, but is there anything else I should do?

I've heard some people say I need to remove the sim card, but then wouldn't it sell for less? I've already activated the 5s and when I try to call from the 4s I get a messages stating the account could not be validated. So do I really need to remove the sim card?

Connect it to a computer with Itunes and run a full restore. Be sure to sign out of icloud on the phone beforehand. As for the SIM it doesn't really record anything; it's basically a permission slip to use the network you use.
