How to put songs from my itunes onto my new iphone?

Ok so I got a new phone and I have a bunch of old songs on my itunes that I was using for previous apple devices (iPods, etc). I don't want to erase all the songs in my library. I just want to put all the songs from my library onto my iphone. How do I do that without erasing my library?

I tried syncing already but it didn't do anything

(Sorry, I'm just really paranoid. I don't want all of my songs to disappear)

Never done itunes but if you can download an MP3 onto your pc/laptop then you can bluetooth it to your iphone.
