How to restore my iPhone 3GS if my power button is broken and it keeps rebooting?

I have an iPhone 3GS (bet no-one guessed that!). I jailbroke it a while back, and all was good. Well, except that when it was plugged into the computer, it would keep rebooting every now and then. It wasn't a huge problem though. As of recently, I've been unable to sync my phone to iTunes and/or update apps. I've had trouble finding out why or locating a fix, but the primary thing I suspect for various reasons is that it's still 5.1.1 iOS. So I want to update it to 6.1.2 then re-jailbreak it. Unfortunately, I can't restore it using an IPSW because it reboots during every attempt. I can't put it into DFU mode for a workaround either though because the power button is broken. So I need help! But I need dynamic help like this, where I can explain my situation properly. Not just an FAQ of Apple's or various other people's not-so-identical questions. Anyone able to help?

Download Redsn0w
Go to Extras > Even more > DFU IPSW

go to DFU mode and you know the rest.

  • My iPhone 4S keeps rebooting itself and not turning on? It's not turning on, the Apple Logo and the swirly thing keeps appearing. What do I do, is it broken? And it won't connect to my iTunes. It doesn't show it under 'Devices'.
  • My iphone 3gs keeps rebooting? My iphone 3gs keeps rebooting. I will go to send a text and it will turn off but it will take a while for it to turn back on. I don't know what's wrong with it please help.
  • Iphone keeps on rebooting during restore? I forgot the passcode for my iphone so just decided to restore it. But it keeps on rebooting during it. Gives me a error that itunes can't connect to it because it has a passcode blah blah. I put it into restore mode, but it just keeps on restarting every 15 minutes or so. Right now just downloading the software update.(thru itunes) does it have to to be in restore mode for that? And when the download finishes and I actually go to restore it, will this pose a problem?
