How to restore my iphone without erasing my media and data?

I updated my iphone from ios 5.1 to ios 6.1.3. After it got done, the phone made the indication to be connected to itunes. After connecting to itunes it said "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTunes". And by restoring i know it will erase all my media and data saved on the phone. How can i prevent this?

Dear Carlis, Don't reset in iTunes before updating. Before updating, sync your music manually, then do a backup. After updating, you can get it back. So bottom line easy do back up first save it in a file then do restore after that you will get all back name your file something you want so you will get it easy when all the restore is done. PS: for any device you have pc phones lap tops anything always do a back up for anything then do restore then you can down load anything you had back into the system you are using always… Back ups are the most important for anything.
