How to sell my locked iPhone 6?
I used to be on AT&T with an iPhone 6 with my ex boyfriend. Well, my ex has reported my phone stolen(even though he gave it to me for my birthday.) and AT&T has blocked it from making calls or anything at all. I want to sell it on eBay or Amazon. I've read online that I could sell it out of the US and it would work fine in any other country. Is this true or could someone in the US use it? And would I list my ad as a black list iPhone or a locked iPhone?
I'm afraid you've been misinformed. There's a difference between a "carrier lock" (where the phone is locked to a certain carrier), and a "blocked" phone (where a phone is reported as lost or stolen). A locked phone can often be unlocked (free of charge if you meet the carrier's requirements), but there are some services on the 'net that can have an IMEI (device ID) unlocked for a fee. Older phones have software hacks that can achieve this.
HOWEVER, a phone that is blocked because it's lost or stolen can't be activated… At all. (OK, there may be clever folks who can unblock it using a hack, but if so, they would charge you for it.)
You may find a naïve buyer willing to take a chance, but you should be upfront about the situation and let them know they are buying a blocked (blacklisted) phone.
If your ad does not state that the phone has been blacklisted due to being reported stolen, eBay will refund the buyers money. So for all practical purposes you have a phone that can't be used or sold to be use in North America or Europe on any cellphone provider.
And once the phone has be blacklisted no one other the the original owner can get it unblacklist, to allow the phone to be activated on any carrier.
You may want to go to AT&T and tell them your situation. Mention that you want to sell the phone and what your boyfriend did.
You should talk to at&t about that instead of trying something else. If not, there's nothing else you can do.
First off I think you can get something done about that obviously false report of it being stolen. It would be blacklisted.
