How to switch cell phone numbers between two iPhones?
My mom and I both have an iPhone 6. The only difference between the two are color, and my mom wants my gold one so I'm taking her black one. However, we want to keep the same phone number we presently have.
I think what I need to do is just back up the phones on iCloud and then switch the SIM card, since that is what the phone number is attached to. Will this work? When I got a free replacement for my iPhone this is what I did to transfer the number from the old to the new…

You should be able to log into your Verizon account online and change the phone numbers.
The Verizon SIM is only for LTE so swapping those wouldn't do anything.

Yes, you just need to do a backup on both phones and switch SIM cards. The sim card is attached to the phone number. Just as you described
