How to tell if an iPhone 5 is CDMA or GSM (without SIM)?

Say I'm looking to buy a used iPhone 5.
How can I tell if it is CDMA or GSM?
Is there a way to check the settings or something? I don't have SIMs for different networks either, since it only takes nano SIM.
I don't want to have to go to the store and have them swap to a nano sim just to check it and then swap back if it doesn't work.
There must be an easier way?

Well AT&T will give you a free one to check or you can find a sim that no longer being used and cut it to size. But the only way I know is to check what company it comes from. Verizon and sprint use CDMA, at&t and T-mobile use GSM.

Well they are both. I don't see the question. Are you trying to ask how do you know if they are locked to a CDMA carrier go into settings and then general and about and scroll down to carrier and it will say AT&T sprint or Verizon
