How to transfer my Pokemon through games?

So I don't own a DS because I gave it away. I use to have a DS LITE. Anyway, I plan to purchase a DS LITE again, because of the GBA compatibility, along with Pokemon Firered, Pokemon Emereld, Pokemon Platinum, (played all of those already but got rid of them *regrets*), I already have Pokemon Heartgold, and one of the new Unova games which i haven't played yet.

What I plan to do is beat these Pokemon games in order, Firered-Heartgold-Emereld-Platinum. And when I beat them all, I want to transfer all 24 of my pokemon, 6 from each game, into whichever Unova game i choose, after I beat it. I've done some research and i know its possible if i were to transfer Firered & Emereld into Platinum and then trade Platinum into Heartgold (or vice versa). Then use the mini game from Black/White to transfer those 24.

As you can see this is going to be a long process, but what about X&Y! I found that that X&Y is 3ds only so am I going to have to buy a 3ds AND a lite to make all these transfers come true? Bc its more than likely that x&y will have some transfer capability. I heard the 3ds will have Gameboy games in there stores but how would I be able to transfer Pokemon through games with a digital copy?

I suppose my real question is, do I really have to buy a LITE and a 3DS to make all these transfers?

BTW, I'm not using those fancy-iPhone-pokemon-creator-apps.

Sadly, yes you do. There isn't another way. But, to do this, you need Pokémon Bank, which isn't out until late December. Pokémon Bank costs a annual fee, but I don't think it's that much.

I know you can get a used DS LITE at GameStop for about $65. For a used 3DS, it's about $120.
