How to transfer sms messages from my old iPhone 5 to my new iPhone 6 plus in iTunes?
I'm sure the answer to this is embarrassingly simple but it's had me baffled after numerous attempts at synching the devices in my mac mini. I've managed to transfer photos, videos and contacts but sms is proving to be a challenge. Any tips?
Added (1). Main thing is that I want to retain old messages from my iPhone 5 for access on my iPhone 6
First, connect each phone to iTunes in turn and perform a full back up. If you can, repeat the process using the optional setting to back up to iCloud. That will ensure the data on both phones is securely stored with redundancy if a fault occurs.
Next, completely reset your iPhone 6+, that will take it back to the fresh out of the box state. (Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings). The back ups make that step fully reversible. Connect the iPhone 6 to iTunes and wait for iTunes to recognise the new phone. You can then restore your iPhone 5 back up to the new phone and afterwards almost everything including your messages will transfer across. Things like fingerprint sensor details and most app passwords do not transfer for added security reasons.
The process is very fresh in my memory because I did exactly that yesterday when I replaced my iPhone 5s with an iPhone 6.
