If you want to use unofficial carrier on your locked iPhone 4S or iPhone 4, you will need to unlock it. In this guide I will explain how you can unlock your iPhone 4/4S on your desired unofficial SIM card.

Unlock iPhone 4:

The first thing that you need to check before even thinking about unlocking is to check your device baseband (Modem Firmware). To do so, open up Settings and go to General > About > Modem Firmware. Your devices' baseband will be one of the following:

01.59.00
02.10.04
03.10.1
4.10.01
4.11.08
4.12.01
If it says 01.59.00, then consider yourself lucky as this is the only iPhone 4 baseband that can be unlocked without any hardware modifications. All you need to do is jailbreak your device and then unlock it using ultrasn0w from Cydia.

If it says 02.10.04, 03.10.1, 4.10.01, the only option to unlock it is using a SIM interposer. The best and well-known interposer is Gevey Sim from ApplenBerry.

And if your iPhone's baseband reads 4.11.08, 4.12.01, you will be really sad to know that there's no unlocking solution available for those two basebands and there's no way to downgrade baseband to earlier version as well.
