How to update my iphone 4 from 4.2.6 to the the 6.1.3?

Apparently I have not been keeping up with the times and let my iphone 4 get "old"
I downloaded itunes. Hooked up my phone. Went to the update and back up. It goes through all 3 steps then says Backing up Iphone… This takes for ever then the little box that says that will disappear and my phone isn't updated! I keep trying to click update and it does the same thing, about an hour later after it goes through the steps is just stops i guess and doesn't dowload the new 6.1.3…
can anyone help me fix this. There's so many apps I want to download and other stuff I need and I can't do because I don't have a new enough version.

Update your iTunes to 11 an outdated iTunes will cause it to not update your devices properly. But to be honest… I would stick with 4.2 cause ios6 will make the phone slower due to the is being more intensive with ram and CPU. But if you want to just update iTunes

Em. Go to Settings - General - Software Update? I don't know alot about iOS 4.

  • Update stopped during ios update own iphone now phones broke I connected my iPhone 4 to my computer (iTunes) and started doing the update through iTunes. About five minutes into the update iTunes in my computer stops working, causing the update to of course stop working. Now my phone will not turn on. On the screen it is black with the 'charge symbol' as if it were low on battery and an iTunes symbol. I have tried turning my phone off and on, but of course it didn't respond.
  • New iOS 6 update, find my iPhone update? I don't like the new find my iPhone update is there a way to change back to the old find my iPhone but keep the new update? It's not showing locations like it used to and won't even how me major boroughs like Croydon. Streets are difficult to see, much smaller picture. General *** compared to the older version.
  • Is the iOS 6.1 update on iPhone 3 safe to update? On my first iPhone there were problems, and the update didn't help it wiped out everything and among other things had to get a new iPhone. The iPhone I have now works, so should I risk this update? It's a 3GS.
  • Is tbere any major différence between thé iPhone 6 and the 6s? Whooppeee is Xmas again and my daughter wants new 2nd hand) iPhone… 2 years ago almost bought her 5 before i réaliséd that it was 5s she wanted ( cos thé 5 sucks?) And I don't want to screw up this year…
